Light

Read desk-lamp coverage claims with care

Lighting specifications become easier to compare when you keep the conditions attached to them. “Bright,” “wide” and “eye-care” are broad descriptions. A lux figure, a measurement distance, a width threshold and a color-rendering index each describe a different part of the lamp's published specification.

Keep the lux threshold with the width

BenQ lists a 90 cm (35.4 in) lighting width at 500 lux for both the e-Reading Desk Lamp and Genie. That is a useful claim because it names the light level associated with the width. It is not a reading that this site made across a desk. The lamp position, surface, ambient light and measurement method matter; the published page does not turn a particular desk into an identical test setup.

The same product specifications list 1,600 lux at the center and a height of 45 cm. A center value is not the same thing as the width of an area at 500 lux. Do not compare a center measurement from one lamp with a coverage-width claim from another as if they were the same metric. Look for the threshold, distance and area behind each number.

Interpret color rendering separately

A published Ra value indicates a manufacturer's color-rendering specification. BenQ lists Ra≥95 for the two reviewed lamps. That number does not measure the size of a lit area, and it does not establish how a particular printed color or screen will look in your room. For color work, check the exact model's value and treat the manufacturer specification as a starting point rather than an independent verification.

Place the beam around the task

A broad head, a movable arm and a wide area are not interchangeable advantages. The lamp must still be placed so light reaches the task without an obstructed head path or a bothersome reflection. Try a plausible head position with the monitor and paper arranged as they will be used. If the product page does not give arm reach or a complete intensity map, do not infer those from the lamp's maximum height or “ultrawide” label.

Use the original conditions

The source-linked values for the reviewed BenQ models appear in their individual assessments and in the e-Reading specification page and Genie specification page. If the exact product edition changes, check its specification page and instructions again. A single number stripped of its model, distance and threshold is not a reliable comparison.

Cycle 26 saved 90 cm at 500 lux answer (historical snapshot)

Cycle 25 adds no width match. Cobra's 500-lumen maximum, Recharge's 275-lumen maximum and the Slimline and Gleam color-rendering claims are different quantities; none of their exact reviewed sources states a 90 cm width at 500 lux. The Cobra, Slimline, Recharge and Gleam assessments preserve the model-specific source gaps.

Cycle 23 supplies no new width match. Multi-Device and Thrive publish no 90 cm-at-500-lux width; Thrive's CRI 95+ is a different field. LED Task Light lists up to 265 lumens, not a width measured at the specific 500-lux threshold. Read the exact Multi-Device, Thrive and LED Task Light assessments for those distinct evidence gaps.

Decision: This questionnaire choice means a manufacturer-published width of at least 90 cm (35.4 inches) at the specifically named 500-lux threshold. In the current reviewed library, only BenQ e-Reading and Genie meet that exact condition. Their product specifications state 90 cm at 500 lux; this is not a measurement made here and does not mean the whole area is uniformly lit. The listed 1,600-lux center value at 45 cm is a different metric. OttLite's 440-lumen maximum for the Space Organizer, CRI 95+ for Strive, and “Wide Area” name on CSY34WGC-SHPR do not document this threshold. Neither do the Circular or Swivel lamps' shape or CRI. The Power Up, both non-USB and USB-equipped Creative Curves, Vibe, Prevention, Folding 13W and Slimline 13W likewise have no documented 90-cm width at 500 lux in their exact reviewed sources. The newly reviewed Curve (flexible neck), Revive (400-lumen maximum and two linked arm sections) and Good Housekeeping Modern (pivoting shade, Qi pad and separate USB output) also lack an exact-source width at 500 lux. The Beam, Prevention Pharmacy, Good Housekeeping table lamp, Adjust and Good Housekeeping Sanitizing likewise have no published 90 cm width at 500 lux in the exact reviewed records. Pharmacy's 400 lumens and CRI 95, Adjust's 420 lumens and CRI 95, Sanitizing's CRI 95+, the table lamp's shade and CRI, and Beam's 17-inch height and six-inch base are different facts, not substitutes for this threshold. The White CSR1600C-SHPR phone-holder lamp has no published lumen total or thresholded width; White and Grey Cool Breeze list up to 350 lumens but no 500-lux width. The phone-holder and Cool Breeze sources also do not give a linked-arm count or numeric Ra/CRI. Purify SCNQC00S lists CRI 95+ but no width at 500 lux; Charge Up CS3QB009-SHPR has no numeric Ra/CRI or such width; Direct CS01BS9-SHPR lists 300 lumens and CRI 95 but no width at the 500-lux threshold. Lumens, wattage, CRI, head shape, arm articulation and wireless charging do not supply that missing width. Unknown width values are not evidence of poor light or proof that no other lamp exists.

Compare the e-Reading assessment with the Genie assessment and their e-Reading and Genie specifications. Open the finder for the full set documenting at least 90 cm at 500 lux.

The White SanitizingPRO SC1AP00S adds a filtered-air module, but its exact lamp sources give no 90 cm width at 500 lux. That value is unknown, not a conversion from its sanitizing or filtration claims.

Cycle 17 adds five base-mounted assessments, none with the required 90 cm-at-500-lux width: Black Prevention CSE13G5P lists CRI 95; Gray Twist CSNWC51W lists CRI 95; and black/brass Balance CS01KA9-SHPR lists CRI 95 and a 428-lumen maximum. Silver Cone 286SV9 lists up to 340 lumens and White Dual Shade NS2009-SHPR lists up to 300 lumens; neither source states a numeric Ra. These lumen ceilings, CRI values and shapes do not answer the same width-at-light-level question. The finder retains the exact 90 cm-at-500-lux threshold.

The five cycle-18 OttLite additions also do not meet the published-width boundary: Renew's CRI 95 and 400-lumen maximum, Mood's separate colored base, MCC00Z-SHPR's manual Kelvin settings, Aglow Organizer's charging pad and Swerve's flexible neck are different claims, and none of their exact product sources states at least 90 cm at 500 lux. A lumen ceiling, CRI, color control or flexible neck cannot be substituted for that stated width. The single-option finder condition is unchanged.

Cycle 19's Harmonize CS01SV9-SHPR (440 lumens and CRI 95), Organizer 7QC00W (wireless charging), Rechargeable Ring CS30900C-SHPR (360-degree ring illumination and CRI 95+) and Pivoting Bankers Lamp 277G59-SHPR (380 lumens) still do not state a width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux. Those distinct values and features cannot be converted into the named boundary; the same 90 cm-at-500-lux finder condition remains exact.

Cycle 20's Command CS59029-SHPR, Adapt CS01B19-SHPR, Merge CS7QAK1W and Infuse CSA26G5Q sources likewise do not publish a width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux. Command's 510-lumen maximum, Adapt's 410 lumens and CRI 95, Merge's Qi stand and Infuse's CRI 95/Qi pad are different specifications; none supplies the stated width. Use the same-condition finder rather than inferring coverage from any of those values.

Wide-width claim plus two linked arm sections

None of the cycle-23 models documents both requirements. Multi-Device and Thrive have flexible necks but no counted two-section arm or 90 cm-at-500-lux width; LED Task Light has a folding shade/standing support but no documented linked sections or qualifying width. Thrive's CRI claim does not change either condition.

Decision: For a setup that needs both at least 90 cm (35.4 inches) at 500 lux and at least two linked supporting-arm sections, e-Reading is the one reviewed match. It documents the 90 cm width and a two-section arm. Genie also documents that width but has one arm section. The OttLite Space Organizer, Strive, Good Housekeeping Circular, Swivel and Wide Area do not document both the required thresholded width and linked-section count. Revive and Pharmacy F148500P document two linked sections but have no exact-source 90-cm-at-500-lux width; Curve's flexible neck and Modern's shade pivot do not establish linked supporting-arm sections or the width. Power Up, both Creative Curves families, Vibe, Prevention, Folding 13W, Slimline 13W, the CSR1600C-SHPR phone-holder lamp and both Cool Breeze finishes have no exact-source width at 500 lux or documented count of two linked supporting-arm sections; Slimline's two pivot joints are adjustment points, not two linked arms. Cool Breeze's 350-lumen maximum is not an alternative way to express this width, and the phone-holder listing provides no substitute coverage number. The ring shape, flexible necks, base sizes, wattage and separate shade pivots do not replace either numeric condition. Cycle 16 does not alter the result: Purify and Charge Up lack both a documented linked-section count and the stated 90 cm width, while Direct has one counterbalance arm and no 90 cm-at-500-lux figure. The intersection is two specifications on one lamp, not a promise of a particular head-reach path.

Read the e-Reading assessment, or open the finder with both numeric boundaries and the arm requirement retained.

The cycle-19 models add no wide-width-plus-two-section result: Harmonize has one counterbalance arm, Organizer and Rechargeable Ring have flexible necks, and Pivoting Bankers adds only a separate shade pivot. None of the four publishes the 90 cm-at-500-lux width. Use the same width-and-two-section finder condition.

Cycle 20 adds Adapt CS01B19-SHPR to the documented two-section group, but its exact page/manual sources do not publish the specified width. Command, Merge and Infuse likewise lack the 90 cm-at-500-lux claim and do not document two linked support sections. No new model enters the wide-width-plus-two-section intersection; the same-condition finder retains both requirements.

SanitizingPRO has neither the specified thresholded width nor a documented two-section arm, so its extra air-cleaning features do not enter this intersection.

The cycle-17 Prevention, Cone, Twist, Dual Shade and Balance assessments add no member to this width-plus-arm result: none documents the thresholded width and none establishes two linked supporting-arm sections. In particular, Balance's 428-lumen maximum and single counterbalance arm do not satisfy either condition. Keep the original width-and-arm finder requirements together.

Cycle 26 saved wide-area plus Ra 95 interaction (historical snapshot)

Thrive SCEY708S adds a published CRI 95+ value but still has no exact-source 90 cm-at-500-lux width, so it does not join the width-plus-Ra result. The Multi-Device and LED Task Light sources state neither that thresholded width nor numeric Ra; their charging, mode or 265-lumen details are different fields.

Decision: The reviewed e-Reading and Genie are the two lamps that combine the 90 cm width at 500 lux with published Ra of at least 95. Other exact models publish Ra 95 or higher, including Prevention Pharmacy F148500P, Good Housekeeping table lamp OTTCL4QTPNGH, Adjust CS01KC9-SHPR, Good Housekeeping Sanitizing SCAY000GH, Black Strive CSN30G5W, Black/White Good Housekeeping Circular, White Swivel CSN0800W, White Wide Area CSY34WGC-SHPR, White Power Up CS030QI-SHPR, Black Vibe CS309G5W, the two USB-equipped Creative Curves finishes, Black Curve CSA30G59, Turquoise Revive F1485TU9-SHPR and Gray Good Housekeeping Modern CS8WA51GH, but their sources do not establish this separate width. Revive's 400-lumen maximum, two support sections and CRI 95+ are separate specifications, not a 500-lux coverage result; Curve's Ra 95 and flexible neck, or Modern's Ra 95+ and charging features, do not establish that width either. Power Up's 400-lumen maximum, Vibe's ring head and CRI, and Creative Curves' USB output/CRI are separate specifications, not width-at-lux claims. The separate wireless-charge Prevention CSAQC00P model has no published numeric Ra or width in the reviewed exact sources; no claim can be inferred from its charging features. The Space Organizer's 440-lumen maximum is also not a width-at-lux value. Beam has no numeric Ra/CRI and none of its exact sources publish a 90 cm width at 500 lux. The phone-holder and Cool Breeze sources do not document either a 90 cm width at 500 lux or numeric Ra/CRI; Cool Breeze's 350-lumen figure and the phone-holder's flexible neck do not fill either gap. Purify SCNQC00S and Direct CS01BS9-SHPR publish Ra values (95+ and 95) but their exact sources give no 90 cm-at-500-lux width; Charge Up CS3QB009-SHPR publishes no numeric Ra or such width. Keep the conditions together: high Ra, a large shade, a circular head or a lumen total does not supply the required width, and a maker Ra value is not an independent color test.

Compare the e-Reading and Genie assessments. Open the finder with the 90 cm at 500 lux and Ra 95-or-higher requirements together. Cycle 18 adds no member to this intersection: Renew publishes CRI 95 without the specified width, while the other four exact OttLite source sets state no numeric Ra and no thresholded width.

SanitizingPRO documents neither the 90 cm width nor a numeric Ra value; the added purifier and sanitizer claims are separate from both lighting thresholds.

Cycle 17 adds manufacturer-published CRI 95 for Black Prevention CSE13G5P, Gray Twist CSNWC51W and Black/brass Balance CS01KA9-SHPR, but the exact pages and manuals do not establish 90 cm at 500 lux for any of them. Cone 286SV9 and Dual Shade NS2009-SHPR have no numeric Ra in their exact source sets; their respective 340- and 300-lumen maxima are not a width-at-500-lux claim. None changes the two-model coverage-plus-Ra intersection. Use the finder with both original numeric conditions retained.

Cycle 19's Harmonize CS01SV9-SHPR and Rechargeable Ring CS30900C-SHPR add maker-published CRI 95/95+ to the Ra-only library but not the 90 cm-at-500-lux width. Organizer 7QC00W and Pivoting Bankers Lamp 277G59-SHPR publish no numeric Ra and no thresholded width. No cycle-19 model joins this two-condition intersection; the same coverage-and-Ra finder keeps both requirements.

Cycle 20's Command CS59029-SHPR, Adapt CS01B19-SHPR and Infuse CSA26G5Q add exact page-listed CRI 95 values, but none documents 90 cm at 500 lux; Merge CS7QAK1W publishes no numeric Ra in its exact page set and no thresholded width. These remain outside the coverage-plus-Ra answer for distinct reasons, and the same-condition finder retains both numeric requirements.

Cycle 26 saved mount-and-width interaction (historical snapshot)

Cycle 23 adds three documented tabletop-base plans but no 90 cm-at-500-lux width: Multi-Device, Thrive SCEY708S and LED Task Light 290009/290G59 all remain outside the base-plus-width intersection. None documents a clamp alternative that would expand the clamp-plus-width result.

The finder treats support and coverage as separate hard requirements. “Wide” here means a manufacturer-published beam width of at least 90 cm (35.4 inches) specifically at 500 lux; a lumen total, CRI number or head shape does not satisfy that numeric boundary. In this reviewed library, the e-Reading and Genie pages document that width for tabletop-base use, while e-Reading also has a separately supported clamp plan. A clamp is an accessory arrangement, not proof it is included. The cycle-18 Renew, Mood, MCC00Z, Aglow Organizer and Swerve lamps document tabletop-base plans but no width at the named 500-lux threshold; their CRI/lumen figure, color controls, charging feature or flexible neck cannot fill that gap. Cycle 20 adds four more tabletop-base models—Command, Adapt, Merge and Infuse—with no exact-source 90 cm-at-500-lux width; their 510/410-lumen, CRI, Qi and organizer claims do not replace the numeric boundary. None adds a clamp plan. The result is evidence-limited to the models and plans checked, not the entire lamp market.

Decision: Requiring a tabletop base plus the published width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux leaves BenQ e-Reading and Genie in the reviewed set. Compare the e-Reading review and Genie review; open the finder with both base and 500-lux width requirements retained.

Decision: Requiring a clamp arrangement plus the published width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux leaves BenQ e-Reading as the reviewed match. Its clamp is compatible but separately sold, so check the exact package and desktop edge; open the finder with clamp and 500-lux width requirements both retained.

All four cycle-19 products document a tabletop base, so they cannot match the clamp-plus-width condition; none documents the separate 90 cm-at-500-lux width for the base-plus-width condition. Their numeric lumen figures, CRI values, ring shape, charging features and pivots do not replace either requirement. The base-and-width and clamp-and-width finders keep the selected support and numeric boundary together.

Current answer: at least 90 cm at 500 lux

Decision: In the current reviewed library, three current-reference models document width at or above 90 cm (35.4 inches) at 500 lux: BenQ e-Reading and Genie at 90 cm, and ScreenBar Max at 135 cm.

The threshold is a manufacturer-published width paired with a specifically named illuminance level; it is not a promise of uniform lighting or an independent test. BenQ's ScreenBar Max specification table lists 135 × 58 cm at 500 lux, while its July 2026 FAQ gives the same width and a 75 cm depth under a different specified setup (head unextended, maximum brightness, 4,000 K). Because the depths differ, this site uses the corroborated 135 cm width and leaves depth unsettled. Its 1,400-lux center value at 71 cm and Ra≥95 are separate figures. The clamp package and separate optional base are also distinct setup decisions.

For comparison, the earlier MindDuo 2 reports 95 cm at 500 lux and qualifies only when earlier models are included; see its review and the ownership guide's earlier-model choice. Other figures such as lumens, maximum wattage, a head's apparent width or a qualitative “wide” label do not satisfy this threshold.

The current Humanscale Element Disc, Element Vision and Element 790 assessments do not add a match: their reviewed sources state no width paired with 500 lux. The Disc's 330-lumen figure and the arm's appearance are not substitutes for that exact two-part boundary; Vision and 790 likewise have no qualifying coverage figure in the reviewed sources. See the separate Disc, Vision and 790 evidence before treating an unlisted width as unknown rather than as measured failure.

Read the e-Reading review, Genie review and ScreenBar Max review. Open the finder with the complete 90 cm-at-500-lux requirement retained for the three current-reference matches.

Current interaction: wide claim plus Ra 95

Decision: Three current-reference BenQ lamps combine a published width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux with a maker-listed Ra value of at least 95: e-Reading, Genie and ScreenBar Max.

ScreenBar Max adds the 135 cm width and front-light Ra≥95 claims; its separately stated Rf≥96 is a different metric. Its FAQ and specification table disagree on depth, but agree on width. These are manufacturer statements, not tests performed here. The maximum center lux value and screen-oriented automatic mode do not change the numeric conditions.

Compare the ScreenBar Max review with the e-Reading review and Genie review; open the finder with both the width and Ra requirements retained.

Current interaction: base plus 500-lux width

Decision: Requiring a tabletop-base plan and at least 90 cm at 500 lux matches e-Reading, Genie and ScreenBar Max in this reviewed current-reference set.

ScreenBar Max's tabletop base is a separate optional accessory; its exact package instead lists a clamp. The width value remains a maker claim, not a measurement on your desk. Check the optional base's listed 16.8 × 23.4 cm footprint and the support clearance for the desk arrangement you choose.

Read the ScreenBar Max assessment, e-Reading assessment and Genie assessment. Open the finder with base and the 500-lux width retained.

Current interaction: clamp plus 500-lux width

Decision: Requiring a clamp plan and at least 90 cm at 500 lux matches BenQ e-Reading and ScreenBar Max; their package arrangements are different.

e-Reading's compatible Desk Clamp is separate from its lamp package. ScreenBar Max's exact US package lists the clamp arm, while the separate base is an alternative setup. The Max clamp is limited to a desk surface up to 6 cm thick; BenQ says not to attach it to monitor risers or shelves and does not recommend it on glass. Its 135 cm width claim is not a desk-specific photometric result.

Read the e-Reading accessory assessment and ScreenBar Max package assessment. Open the finder with clamp and the 500-lux width retained.

Earlier models included with a 90 cm-at-500-lux width

Decision: With earlier models included, four reviewed lamps document at least 90 cm at 500 lux: current-reference e-Reading, Genie and ScreenBar Max, plus earlier/discontinued MindDuo 2.

The MindDuo 2's 95 cm width at 500 lux comes from its exact US specification page; it is an earlier reference, not a claim of current seller stock. ScreenBar Max lists 135 cm width but has a separate 58-versus-75 cm depth discrepancy that remains unresolved.

Compare the MindDuo 2 assessment with the current ScreenBar Max assessment. Open the finder retaining both earlier-model inclusion and the 500-lux width.

Earlier models excluded with a 90 cm-at-500-lux width

Decision: With earlier models excluded, three current-reference lamps document at least 90 cm at 500 lux: e-Reading, Genie and ScreenBar Max; the earlier MindDuo 2 is omitted.

This choice does not make a claim about current stock for the remaining models. It excludes the MindDuo 2 because its exact US buy page labels MindDuo2-001 discontinued, not because its 95 cm width claim fails the threshold.

Compare the ScreenBar Max assessment and the e-Reading assessment with the MindDuo 2 earlier-model note. Open the finder retaining current-reference-only and the 500-lux width.
