Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Element 790 sit on a tabletop base?
Yes. The current US page lists EDEBB Jet Black, EDEBS Silver and EDEBW Arctic White with a Desktop Base. The configurator separately offers Technology Base X (one USB and one 120-V outlet) and Technology Base Y (two 120-V outlets).
Explore this need in the finder →Can I buy a clamp-mounted version with the clamp in the chosen configuration?
The current configurator offers Clamp C, Clamp with Grommet Cover G, and a 2-Piece Clamp with Theft Deterrent T. The Silver Clamp C route uses code EDECS. Confirm that the selected configured item is the one in the offer and check your desk edge; no jaw range is published.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it have two linked supporting sections?
Yes. The official product images show two linked support sections. The page lists 28 inches maximum reach and 18 inches working height; these numbers do not prove clearance above your monitor.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its published light meet Ra 95 or the 90-cm-at-500-lux width requirement?
No. Humanscale lists CRI 85, 3500 K and 5 W, but gives no width at 500 lux. Those source values do not meet the Ra 95 or 90-cm width thresholds.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it automatically adjust for paper and screen?
The exact page and brochure document a seven-level dimmer, not paired automatic paper/screen modes. No occupancy-sensor function is established in the reviewed Element 790 materials.
Explore this need in the finder →Element 790 is the manually dimmable MCX member of Humanscale's Element group. Its current US page lists three Desktop Base finishes, and the live configurator provides other support and power-base choices. The published lighting specification differs from both Element Disc and Element Vision, so the useful comparison is about documented spectrum, controls and arrangement—not a claim that one model is brighter or more comfortable. This review is based on official sources and does not report hands-on testing.
Neutral-white light with a manual dimmer
Humanscale specifies a 5-watt light, 3500 K color temperature and CRI 85. The model brochure says the dimmer has seven levels and uses 0.5 watts at its lowest setting; it also gives an L70 life rating of 50,000 hours. These are manufacturer claims, not measurements made for this site. The 3500 K value places the published color temperature between warm household light and cooler task-light settings, but it does not predict how a particular reader will perceive it.
CRI 85 is below the finder's Ra 95 requirement. The 790 materials do not give a width of at least 90 cm at 500 lux. A CRI figure, wattage or maximum light-output comparison cannot be converted into that width. Nor does this current source set describe an ambient sensor with automatic paper and screen modes. The seven brightness levels are manual dimming; they answer a different need.
Movement and support choices
The exact official images show a two-section articulated arm with an internal counterbalance. Humanscale lists a maximum reach of 28 inches and a working height of 18 inches. Its brochure also describes 360-degree swivel at the base, 135-degree front-to-back head tilt and 90-degree side-to-side head rotation. These separate movements can help with positioning, but the reach and height values are not a drawing of every head location. They cannot tell you whether the lamp will clear a screen or shelving in your actual layout.
The current US page lists Jet Black EDEBB, Silver EDEBS and Arctic White EDEBW as Desktop Base configurations. The live configurator also offers Clamp (C), Clamp with Grommet Cover (G), a two-piece clamp with theft deterrent (T), Technology Base (X) with one USB and one 120-volt outlet, and Technology Base (Y) with two 120-volt outlets. The configurator route for a Silver Clamp C uses code EDECS. A selected clamp configuration is a different configuration from a base code; do not assume a separately sold clamp accessory is included with a base package. Check the final code, the package contents and the desk edge, because the reviewed materials give no jaw range.
The same configurator exposes Universal Slatwall and Wall options. They are recorded as product choices but are not treated here as tabletop-base or desk-clamp matches. The product page says the family has twenty mount options, while the current US interface inspected this cycle shows eight named choices. The exact matrix of all potential finish-and-mount combinations is therefore not inferred from the broad count.
How 790 differs from Vision and Disc
All three models share a two-section form in the exact product images, but their published details differ. Element 790 is the 5-watt, 3500 K, CRI 85 model with seven documented dimmer levels. Vision is an MCX product at 3000 K and CRI 89 with a documented PIR occupancy shutoff; its current sources do not state the dimmer's step count. Disc uses Thin Film LED technology, lists CRI 80 and 330 lumens, and documents a PIR sensor with a ten-minute no-motion shutoff. An occupancy sensor should not be mistaken for paper/screen sensing. These differences can narrow which review to read, but do not establish a personal visual preference or comparative performance ranking.
Service, warranty and exact-package checks
Humanscale's current page directs readers to general warranty terms rather than showing a specific duration. An exact-model 2020 brochure says 10 years, 24/7; an older Element Classic/790 brochure says 5 years, 24/7. Because those source versions conflict and the current page defers to terms, I would verify the current written warranty for the exact configuration rather than assume either period. The brochure describes a universal power supply and interchangeable plug options; check the North American plug and selected base before purchase.
Element 790 makes sense to compare if you want a structured arm, a seven-step manual dimmer and the 3500 K specification. It is not the right evidence-backed choice if your hard requirement is Ra 95, 90 cm at 500 lux, or automatic paper-and-screen adjustment. Before ordering, match EDEBB/EDEBS/EDEBW or the selected configured code to the support hardware, confirm the base or outlet package, and obtain current installation and warranty terms. The images establish appearance and visible arm form only; they do not test stability, output or clearance.
