A useful fit for

A small-footprint tabletop lamp to compare when a user wants a folding shade, a carrying handle and a replaceable OttLite Type E bulb rather than an integrated LED panel.

The main tradeoff

The lamp has no documented brightness dimmer, numeric Ra value, 90 cm-at-500-lux width or automatic screen/paper mode. Its current product page carries a state-specific sales notice for pin-based CFL products; check current local restrictions and bulb supply.

Which Folding Task Lamp finishes and codes are assessed?

The current product record lists Black 717G53-SHPR / variant 43350763634742 and White 783003 / variant 43350763667510. Both exact retail codes appear in the shared instruction sheet and have separate images.

Can the lamp be dimmed or switched separately from its folding shade?

No separate dimmer is documented. OttLite's manual says the lamp turns on when the shade is raised and off when it is lowered, and that OttLite tubes are not dimmable.

Is the pin-based bulb permitted to be sold in every state?

OttLite's current product page lists a notice that, as of January 1, 2026, pin-based CFL bulbs and lamps using them cannot be sold to customers in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont. Check current local rules and offers; the notice is the manufacturer's statement, not legal advice.

A folding task lamp with two exact retail finishes

The current OttLite U.S. page groups a Black 717G53-SHPR and White 783003 under the 13w Folding Task Lamp name. Its product record maps separate variant IDs and images to the two finishes, and the shared instruction sheet explicitly includes both codes. The sources reviewed do not identify a functional difference between those two current finishes, so this assessment keeps both SKU identities while describing their shared arrangement.

This model is a conventional replaceable-bulb lamp rather than an integrated LED panel. OttLite says a 13-watt Natural Daylight bulb, Type E, is included. The shared manual describes inserting and removing the tube and says OttLite tubes are not dimmable. That service and control pattern is different from the touch-level LED models elsewhere in this library.

Open and close for light; do not expect a dimmer

The maker’s instructions say to raise the shade to turn the lamp on and lower it to turn it off. There is no brightness dial or set of dimming levels documented for this model. Its adjustable folding shade changes the lamp’s shape and height, not the fluorescent tube’s light level. A handle folds down when it is not being used, and OttLite presents the design as portable; that description should not be read as a weight rating or a test of how convenient it is to carry.

The listed height range is 11.25 to 17.5 inches, and the base measures 3.75 by 4.5 inches. Those are useful footprint and height checks for a small work surface, but the maximum height is not a side-to-side reach diagram. The documented arrangement is a tabletop base, not a clamp or clip. A carrying handle and a hinged shade do not change the lamp’s mount.

Factor the bulb and regional notice into the choice

The product page’s current notice identifies the lamp as using a pin-based CFL bulb and says sales to customers in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont are prohibited under state laws as of January 1, 2026. That is OttLite’s notice for this product page, not independent legal advice; check current rules and seller terms for the exact location and package. The notice is important because it can affect whether the lamp or its replacement bulb is offered where the shopper lives.

The manual calls for a standard 120 V outlet, and the product has a direct cord rather than a separate power adapter. The source does not give a numeric Ra value, a 90 cm width at 500 lux, center illuminance or a sensor-based paper/screen mode. “Natural Daylight” is the bulb description; it does not establish a CRI number, color-temperature range or wide-beam threshold. Do not use the small base or 13 W bulb rating to infer a coverage result.

How it compares with the 13w Slimline

The Slimline Task Lamp is another current OttLite 13-watt model with a replaceable Type E bulb and a tabletop base, but its page describes an articulating shaft, rotating shade and two points of adjustment. The Folding lamp’s distinguishing layout is a carrying handle and a shade that opens to switch the light on and closes to switch it off. Neither product’s source set documents the questionnaire’s two-or-more linked supporting-arm sections, and neither should be treated as dimmable just because its shade moves. The manuals and product pages describe different mechanisms, not interchangeable models.

Confirm the exact package before choosing it

Check whether the offer is Black 717G53-SHPR or White 783003, whether the included 13 W Type E bulb is present, and whether a suitable replacement is available if the original eventually fails. Verify the lamp’s state-specific sales notice against current local requirements and check the bulb’s own offer separately. Then compare the folded form and 3.75-by-4.5-inch base with the available desk space. This is a source-based assessment: no personal carrying, brightness, durability or comfort test is claimed.
