Comparison

Compare desk lamps by the job their geometry does

Comparing the BenQ e-Reading Desk Lamp and Genie shows why a desk-lamp shortlist should preserve support geometry and accessory compatibility rather than treating matching light claims as identical products. Both are integrated-LED lamps with similar headline manufacturer specifications, but they approach desk placement differently.

What the official pages have in common

For both US products, BenQ lists 90 cm (35.4 in) at 500 lux, 1,600 lux center illuminance at 45 cm, Ra≥95, a 2,700–5,700 K range, 13 color-temperature levels, 23 brightness levels and maximum consumption of 18 W. Each product page describes a knob, paper/screen modes and an ambient sensor. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities with conditions, not an independent test of equal distribution or identical comfort.

Where their physical setup differs

The e-Reading model uses a two-section swing arm and a curved head; the Genie has a single supporting arm section. The specification pages list different maximum dimensions and net weights: 59 × 22 × 62.5 cm and 4.8 kg for e-Reading, versus 25 × 25 × 56 cm and 2.5 kg for Genie. Those figures help screen for general scale but do not reveal a base-only footprint or a full reach map.

The clamp is a decisive distinction

BenQ lists a Desk Clamp as compatible with the e-Reading Desk Lamp and says the clamp does not fit Genie. The clamp is an optional accessory, not a proven part of the e-Reading lamp package. Thus, someone who needs a clamp arrangement should check the exact compatible part and package; someone who needs a clamp included in the lamp box should not assume either standard lamp package satisfies that condition.

Choose the constraint that matters most

Consider e-Reading if the extra arm articulation or optional clamp arrangement matters and your desk can accommodate the larger listed lamp. Consider Genie if its shorter listed dimensions and base-only installation suit the work surface and a single support arm is enough. If the listed figures do not resolve your monitor, shelf or head-position needs, obtain an exact installation diagram and manual. The e-Reading review and Genie review preserve each product's own limits instead of crowning one overall winner.

Keep support choice and arm reach as separate checks

Cycle-23 Multi-Device, Thrive and LED Task Light add only tabletop-base plans to this comparison. Cycle 24 adds Travel Rechargeable and Natural Daylight as other base-only forms, plus Refine, whose two linked supporting sections still do not create a clamp option. The exact Multi-Device, Thrive, LED Task Light, Travel, Natural Daylight and Refine reviews distinguish their flex neck, folding form and arm structure; none documents a new clamp arrangement.

Decision: On a tabletop base, seven models document two linked supporting sections: e-Reading, Adapt CS01B19-SHPR, Refine F1D83BN9-SHPR/F1D83BR9-SHPR, Turquoise Revive, Prevention Pharmacy F148500P, White 18w FlexArm Plus A13WG2-SHPR and Entice Blue CSDQA80W-SHPR / Metallic Silver CSDQA02W-SHPR. For clamp mounting, two models qualify: e-Reading uses a separately sold compatible clamp, and FlexArm Plus includes a clamp conversion kit. This keeps mount and arm requirements attached to the same operating arrangement. Adapt’s exact manual identifies two adjustable support poles and locking thumbscrews, while Revive has a 6.12-inch base and a two-section corded arm. Pharmacy F148500P is another two-section-count-qualified base-only lamp; see its model assessment. Refine's exact manual labels an arm and arm section, with two support thumbscrews distinct from the shade swivel; its support is base-only. FlexArm Plus documents dual flex joints with both base and clamp setups; Entice’s page states two articulation points on its aluminum arm but provides no reach envelope. The White CSR1600C-SHPR phone-holder lamp and White/Grey Cool Breeze each use a tabletop base and flexible neck, but neither source set documents two linked sections. Cycle-16 Purify SCNQC00S and Charge Up CS3QB009-SHPR also do not document a linked-arm count; Direct CS01BS9-SHPR documents one counterbalance arm rather than two. The newly reviewed Extended Reach CSN85G5C-SHPR / CSN8500C-SHPR has a flexible neck, not a documented linked-arm count. Neither a flexible neck nor a shade pivot counts as two linked supporting sections, and a clamp plan does not mean the accessory comes in the lamp package.

Compare the e-Reading assessment, Adapt assessment, Brushed Nickel/Antique Brass Refine assessment, Turquoise Revive assessment, Prevention Pharmacy assessment, FlexArm Plus and Entice. For the tabletop-base setup, open the finder retaining both requirements; for clamp mounting, open the finder retaining clamp and two-section-arm requirements.

Cycle 17 adds five reviewed base-only models but no two-section-arm match: Prevention CSE13G5P's folding body/shade, the Cone 286SV9 and Twist CSNWC51W flexible necks, Dual Shade NS2009-SHPR's paired heads, and Balance CS01KA9-SHPR's single counterbalance arm are not two linked support sections. The base-plus-arm finder therefore retains e-Reading, Adapt, Revive and Prevention Pharmacy; the clamp-plus-arm finder still retains only e-Reading.

Cycle 18 also adds five base-mounted reviews without a source-documented two-linked-section qualification. The exact Renew and Aglow Organizer records do not establish the two-section boundary; Mood CSB3000W and Swerve CSN34KCW describe flexible necks, and MCC00Z-SHPR's manually selected task-light colors do not document two linked support sections. The current same-condition base and clamp links above remain unchanged.

Cycle 19 adds no two-section match in either support condition: Harmonize CS01SV9-SHPR has one counterbalance arm; Organizer 7QC00W and Rechargeable Ring CS30900C-SHPR use flexible necks; and Pivoting Bankers Lamp 277G59-SHPR combines a flexible neck with a pivoting shade, not two linked supporting sections. All four have base-only plans, so none adds a clamp-plus-arm result. The base-and-arm finder and clamp-and-arm finder keep their original two conditions intact.

Two linked supporting sections plus Ra 95 or higher

Thrive SCEY708S joins the maker-published Ra 95+ group but its exact sources do not count two linked supporting sections; Multi-Device and LED Task Light likewise publish no numeric Ra and document no two-section count. The Ra claim or a flexible/folding form alone cannot satisfy this intersection.

Decision: Requiring both two linked supporting sections and maker-published Ra 95 or higher leaves five models: e-Reading, Adapt CS01B19-SHPR, Refine F1D83BN9-SHPR/F1D83BR9-SHPR, Turquoise Revive and Prevention Pharmacy F148500P. Their different values should not be collapsed into a performance ranking. BenQ lists Ra≥95 for e-Reading; OttLite lists CRI 95 for Adapt, both Refine finishes, and 95+ for the exact Turquoise Revive. The Adapt manual names two adjustable support poles with locking thumbscrews; Refine's code-family manual labels an arm and arm section with separate adjustment screws; Revive's two support sections are visible in its exact product image and supported by its three adjustment knobs and linked manual. Neither these CRI claims nor Revive's 400-lumen maximum establishes 90 cm at 500 lux. The phone-holder and Cool Breeze models document flexible necks but no two-section count, and their exact sources give no numeric Ra/CRI, so neither enters this intersection. Purify SCNQC00S meets the published Ra threshold but lacks a linked-arm count; Direct CS01BS9-SHPR meets it but has one arm; Charge Up CS3QB009-SHPR has no numeric Ra and does not establish two sections. No exact source reviewed here establishes the 90 cm-at-500-lux width for any member of this five-model result.

Read the e-Reading review, Adapt CS01B19-SHPR review, Brushed Nickel/Antique Brass Refine review, the Turquoise Revive review and the Prevention Pharmacy review. Open the finder with both the two-section and Ra requirements retained; its result is a source-backed shortlist, not proof of measured color performance.

Cycle 17's three new Ra 95 models do not extend the arm-plus-Ra result: Prevention CSE13G5P does not document two linked support sections, Twist CSNWC51W has a flexible neck, and Balance CS01KA9-SHPR documents one counterbalance arm. Cone 286SV9 and Dual Shade NS2009-SHPR have no numeric Ra and do not document two linked support sections. The same two-condition finder preserves both requirements.

Cycle 19 also adds no arm-plus-Ra match. Harmonize has published CRI 95 but one counterbalance arm; Rechargeable Ring has published CRI 95+ but its flexible neck is not a two-section support. Organizer and Pivoting Bankers have no numeric Ra claim and no documented linked-section count. The same arm-and-Ra finder preserves both the structural and numeric conditions.

Cycle 28 interaction: tabletop base plus two linked arm sections

Decision: Requiring both a tabletop-base arrangement and at least two linked supporting sections returns thirteen reviewed models, including base arrangements for Humanscale Nova, Infinity, Element Disc, Element Vision and Element 790, plus Dyson Morph CD06.

Morph CD06 adds a second verified link arm to the base intersection. The single-support-section CD05 is excluded from this interaction even though it has multi-axis movement. The Element trio also expands the set: exact product images show two support links, and current product pages/configurators identify base arrangements. Their 28-inch reach and 18-inch working height are separate published dimensions; neither section count nor reach establishes a 90 cm width at 500 lux or clearance over a specific monitor or shelf. Their 3000 K (Disc/Vision) and 3500 K (790) specifications also do not answer the separate Ra 95 threshold.

Compare Solarcycle Morph CD06, Solarcycle CD05 (base match but not a two-section match), and Element Disc, Element Vision, Element 790, Nova, Infinity, e-Reading and 18w FlexArm Plus. FlexArm Plus adds both a weighted tabletop base and rotating clamp in its documented conversion kit, with dual flex joints rather than the Humanscale linked-arm construction. Open the finder retaining both the tabletop-base and two-section requirements for the complete thirteen-model intersection.

Cycle 28 interaction: clamp plus two linked arm sections

Decision: Requiring a clamp-mounted arrangement and at least two linked support sections returns seven reviewed configurations: BenQ e-Reading and OttLite 18w FlexArm Plus; Humanscale Nova and Infinity; and the Element Disc, Element Vision and Element 790.

These are not interchangeable clamps: e-Reading's accessory is separate, FlexArm Plus has a manual limit for a firm platform, and Humanscale does not state clamp jaw ranges in the reviewed sources. The Element C/G/T configurations coexist with two linked arm sections, but their clamp details do not supply a jaw limit or desk-edge fit. Match the exact clamp configuration and desk edge before relying on the shared arm criterion.

Read Element Disc, Element Vision, Element 790, Nova, Infinity, e-Reading and FlexArm Plus. Open the finder with both clamp and arm-section requirements retained.
