A useful fit for

A source-based comparison for someone who wants a tabletop light with two linked supporting sections, a repositionable head, several task/ambient/feature/indirect formats, app-based local-daylight scheduling, and integrated USB-C charging.

The main tradeoff

Its 850-lumen maximum and CRI 90-or-above statement do not meet an asserted 90 cm-at-500-lux width or published Ra 95. Paper and screen auto modes are not documented. Local-daylight control depends on an app-compatible device and connectivity; LEDs are integrated and not user-replaceable.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does Morph have two linked arm sections for a tabletop-base setup?

Yes. The exact CD06 images and model manual show two linked support sections and a tabletop base. The arm count does not promise a particular desk-edge clearance or beam reach.

Does Morph establish a 90 cm width at 500 lux, paper/screen modes or Ra 95?

No. Dyson publishes 850 lm, an average illuminance figure, and CRI 90 or above; those do not establish the separate 90 cm-at-500-lux or Ra 95 thresholds. The reviewed sources list app modes but not automatic paper and screen modes.

Does its automatic control require an app?

The manual controls and ambient sensor are separate from local-daylight scheduling, which the manufacturer says connects to its app by Bluetooth. App-linked personalization depends on a compatible device and connectivity; the lamp itself is not documented as having Wi-Fi.

Three desk finishes belong to the CD06 family

The U.S. Dyson desk-lamp collection lists Solarcycle Morph in Black/Brass, Black/Black and White/Silver. The corresponding product pages identify the desk version as CD06. Dyson’s U.S. technical sheet supplies codes 292213-01 for Black/Black and 292214-01 for White/Silver; it does not show a Black/Brass code, so that code stays unresolved here. The finish pages and exact images are distinct observations of one functional desk-lamp design. Dyson also sells Morph floor forms, which are not part of this assessment.

Movement and lighting formats

Unlike the Solarcycle CD05, Morph’s desk model has two linked supporting-arm sections and a separate optical head that the manufacturer describes as repositionable through 360 degrees. The arm count is grounded in the exact product images and model manual, not inferred from Dyson’s general movement language. It satisfies the finder’s structural two-section condition, but says nothing by itself about whether the head clears your monitor, shelf or neighboring task area. Measure the intended path against the physical desktop and check the lamp’s geometry before deciding that the range suits your setup.

Dyson describes four lighting formats—task, ambient, feature and indirect—by moving the light around the base and stem. This can make the CD06 useful for comparing directed work light with reflected or more diffuse room lighting. These are physical formats, not a measured coverage map. The technical sheet gives an 850-lumen maximum and an average illuminance figure of 1,546 lux, but it does not state that the lamp reaches 90 cm (35.4 inches) at 500 lux. The average value cannot substitute for that width-and-threshold result.

Color temperature also changes with physical position. Dyson lists 2700–6500 K undocked and 1800–3400 K when the optical head is docked. That lower docked range is a real distinction from the CD05’s 2700–6500 K listing, but it is not a Ra 95 claim. Morph’s published color-rendering statement is “90 or above,” so the reviewed materials do not establish the finder’s requirement of a manufacturer-listed Ra of at least 95.

App scheduling is separate from sensing and modes

The lamp has slide-touch dimming and color-temperature controls, an ambient sensor that adjusts brightness for surrounding conditions, and a motion sensor that switches the light on when movement is detected and off after five minutes without movement. Those are separate mechanisms. The manual says local-daylight changes are set by geographical location through the Dyson app using Bluetooth. App-linked personalization requires a compatible device and internet connectivity; this is not a claim that the lamp has built-in Wi-Fi or senses actual outside light in real time.

Dyson promotes Study, Relax, Wake-up, Boost and customizable app settings, along with the four lighting formats. Those features should not be mistaken for the questionnaire’s specific paired automatic paper and screen modes: the reviewed Morph sources do not document that paper/display switching. If that exact feature is essential, manual dimming, ambient adjustment or an app preset is not enough evidence to pass it.

Power, service and the decision boundary

The technical sheet lists 11.2 W, a weight of 7.7 pounds, and dimensions of 20.6 inches high, 16.3 inches long and 7.8 inches wide. Its 3.2-meter cord may affect placement, and the integrated USB-C point is rated at up to 1.5 A at 5 V. These published facts help frame a comparison but do not establish base footprint, charging time, device compatibility or stability on a particular work surface. The LEDs are integrated and not designed for user replacement. Dyson’s 181,000-hour figure is an L70 estimate using eight hours per day, not a warranty or a lifespan observed here; verify repair and warranty terms for the current offer.

CD06 belongs on a shortlist when two linked sections, multiple physical lighting formats, local-time adjustment and a docked warmer color range matter. It is not a documented solution to a required 90 cm-at-500-lux field, Ra 95, or automatic paper/screen modes. Compared with the Solarcycle CD05, Morph adds a linked support section and lower maximum lumens; CD05 instead lists 1,120 lumens and has the unresolved two-versus-five-minute motion-off conflict between its product page and manual. This review is based on Dyson’s U.S. pages, manual, technical sheet and exact manufacturer images—not hands-on use, private testing, stock checking or seller-price comparison.
